Van-Alan H. Shima

Attorney Van-Alan H. Shima was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii.   Van attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he received his B.A., cum laude, in 1998, with a major in International Affairs.  He subsequently worked for three years in the White House and the U.S. Department of Justice before enrolling in Columbia Law School in New York City.  While in law school, Van was a member of the Columbia Law Review and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar; he received his J.D., cum laude, in 2004.  Following graduation, Van served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paula Nakayama of the Hawaii Supreme Court.  He is admitted to practice law before all Hawaii courts, the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii, and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Hawaii.  He is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
